1. The thread is not cut, but formed. For this, special BaerCoil® forming taps are used, which compact the material and form it into a thread. As a result, such a thread, into which a steel wire threaded insert is fitted, can withstand a much higher load. Thread forming is faster than cutting and chips are not formed. In addition, the forming tap has a longer service life. |

2. BaerCoil® wire thread inserts ensure a more even distribution of the tensile force on the individual threads.
For comparison: in a conventional screw connection, its first two threads transmit up to 70% of the total tensile force. The threaded insert thus significantly increases the strength of the threaded joint. The length of the threaded insert can also to some extent affect the strength of the threaded joint. Possible material savings through smaller screws, resp. smaller threads are shown in the figure. |

Threading with a combination of BaerCoil® forming taps and wire thread inserts offers new possibilities in machine design and construction. Supportive tensile strength tests were performed at the Cryo-MaK Mechanical Experimental Laboratory for Technical Physics at the Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe (KIT).
After internal company tests and testing with customers, this system was introduced into production. |
